  • Capacity of Devices to Connect to WiFi has been reached.
  • Recent faulty Android update.
  • Poor WiFi Network Connection.
  • Confusion or mistake in WiFi name or Password. In this case, make sure to recheck the password as well as the WiFi network name to avoid any confusion.

Here are 8 easy ways using which you can fix WiFi Authentication Error.

Method 1. Reconnect to WiFi

The easiest way to fix WiFi Authentication error is to reconnect To your WiFi router.

If you have already connected to WiFi but now it’s showing the Authentication error, then simply Forget Network and Reconnect to WiFi.

  • Swipe down to open the Notification Panel on your Android device.
  • Long press on the WiFi icon.
  • Tap on the Name of the WiFi and tap on Forget Network. 
  • Now again tap on the WiFi and tap on Connect.
  • Now reenter the Password and connect to WiFi.

Method 2. Restart Router

If you have a WiFi Router, simply restart it. At times even restarting the device can help solved many issues.

You Can either turn off the Router by simply pressing the button or pulling the cord off. Then after 15 seconds or so, again connect or switch on the Router.

Now see if the problem still persists. In case it does, try the other solutions given below.

Method 3. Restart Device

As mentioned earlier, restarting a device can help fix some of its issues. If the WiFi router is working well and restarting it doesn’t help, it might mean that your device which you want to connect to WiFi could be at fault.

  • On your device, long-press the power button. 
  • From the options that appear on the screen, tap on Reboot/Restart.
  • Wait until the device turns on and now try reconnecting your device to the WiFi.

Method 4. Enable flight Mode (Aeroplane mode)

Enabling and then disabling Flight Mode or Aeroplane mode can help fix WiFi Authentication error.

  • Swipe down to open the Notification Panel on your Android device.
  • Tap on the Aeroplane icon.
  • This will enable the flight mode.
  • Now wait for a few seconds.
  • Again tap on the same icon to disable flight mode
  • Now try reconnecting your device to the WiFi.

In case even this method doesn’t help, you can try the below workaround.

Method 5. Update Android OS

Android phones are regularly updated to keep them away from bugs and let users have the best experience on their phones.

If you are having trouble connecting to WiFi, it could mean that your device needs to be updated to the latest OS version. So check if there is an update available for your device and then try connecting to the WiFi.

  • On your Android phone, go to Settings > Security > System Updates.
  • Here check for the latest updates.
  • In case you see an update, tap on it to install.
  • Once you install the update, check if now the authentication issue is solved.

Method 6. Change Network Configuration

Changing Network configuration can help you solve WiFi Authentication Error.

  • Swipe down to open the Notification Panel on your Android device.
  • Long press on the WiFi icon.
  • This will open the WiFi Settings.
  • Now tap on Modify Network.
  • Then choose – IP settings and change them to static.
  • Note down the details you see in the IP address field.
  • Then delete it.
  • Now re-enter it and tap on the Save button.

For other details like Netmask, getaway, etc., refer to the back of your WiFi router or simply ask your service provider.

That’s it. Once you change the Network Settings, you shouldn’t see the WiFi Error in authentication.

Method 7. Reset Network Settings

If none of the above methods were useful, it means that there is some issue with the Network Settings on your device. Simply reset Network Settings using the below easy steps and then try connecting To WiFi.

  • Go to Settings > System> Reset> Reset Network Settings.
  • You will receive a warning message on the screen. Ignore it and again tap on Reset Network Settings. 

That’s it. Now try to reconnect with WiFi.

Method 8. Factory Reset your device

Factory Reset of your device should be the last option if none of the above methods worked.
