OnePlus 8 Pro keeps losing 5GHz wifi
One Plus 8 Pro users have been reporting a problem recently. According to these OnePlus 8 Pro Users, they were not able to set up the phone as it was not connecting to the wifi.
The One Plus 8 pro user also states that Turning wifi off and on, airplane mode off and on, turning cellular down to 4G- none of them seem to be of any help.
The OnePlus user also says that the OnePlus Device does not show the 5GHz network in the scanning list, nor does it connect to it under saved networks.
The users are pretty disappointed with the entire situation. Many of them stated that if the developers do not look into the issue and solve it at the earliest, his phone is in the warranty period will have to be returned as the only resolve left.
Below is a screenshot of the complaint listed by the OnePlus 8 Pro user in detail. Have a look at the same to understand the situation in detail from the user perspective. The post can be seen in detail on Reddit
Another such user lodged a similar complaint on the Oneplus forum.. the post can also be seen here
The users have tried doing a number of things to fix the issue including:
- Rebooting the router
- Changing the channels of my 5GHz wifi trying many configurations between channels and MHz
- Reset Network settings on my phone
- Wiping cache of my phone from the recovery
- Wipe completely the phone from the recovery
- Set network usage to un-metered
- Privacy: Use Device Mac instead of randomized
But none of the above-mentioned methods have seemed to work for the OnePlus 8 Pro users.
However, Android Jungle has come up with a resolve that may solve your problem.
OnePlus 8 Pro keeps losing 5GHz wifi: Resolve
The identified reason for this problem, of which the solution has helped most of the people facing this issue is Android’s Smart Network Switch.
With this feature, Android avoids poor network connections and automatically disconnects them.

This is a really helpful feature when you change your place and get near to your other available hotspot.
However, this can be a problem if your smartphone detects poor connection wrongly or there is no other available connection.
For the mentioned use-cases, you might want to turn off the “Avoid poor connection” video.
Follow the steps to turn off the feature:
- Go to Setting.
- Go to Wifi and Network.
- Look for Avoid Poor Connection/Auto Network Switch/Smart Network Switch
4. Toggle it off.
Now your Android phone will no longer disconnect from hotspot when identifying it as the poor connection.
That’s all for now! As of today, there is no official resolve from the developer but you can try the method mentioned above and see if it works for you. Also if it does solve your problem feel free to let us know and we will be glad to be of some help to you!
Android Jungles will keep a close watch on any changes and updates taking place, so be sure to know about any of it from us first!
