When it comes to timely security updates, Samsung is one company you can blindly trust on. Over time, the Korean giant is making moves to include as many devices in the December 2019 Security patch level as possible without sparing the age-old tabs and phones as well. Google’s Security guidelines make it mandatory for OEMs and phone brands to release monthly Android security patch levels. But looks like Samsung has taken this way too seriously now.
The new members to the December 2019 Security Patch club are the Galaxy A80, Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, and the Galaxy Tab A 10.5. These devices are, however, getting updated in specific regions for now. Here’s how –
Galaxy A80 – Update rolling out in Peru, Ecuador, Brazil, Chile, and a few other countries.
Galaxy S7 & Galaxy S7 edge – Spain and France.
Galaxy Tab A 10.5 – Update rolling out in Turkey.
As for the update log of this security patch, there aren’t any new additions in terms of functionalities or features. However, the December security patch does fix a number of exposures. In all, the update is believed to fix a total of 43 low to a critical levels of vulnerabilities, some of which were discovered by the company itself.
Automatic connection to any Bluetooth device on a locked phone, exposure of Home screen wallpaper while adjusting brightness level on Locked phones, an allowance to a remote attacker to run code on the device, and so on will be fixed through this security update.
This update is being rolled out Over-the-air and it will be rolled out in patches. If you are looking forward to downloading this update, all you need to do is go to the Settings>System> Software Updates> Check for Software Updates. Tap on it to install the update. Mostly you will receive a notification when the update arrives on your device.
